Nixie's Pics

Hello Humans! Nixie here. I have spent the day in my neighborhood, tending to the flowers and had to share some of my favorites with you.

I also found a wonderful little patch of blackberries and brought the kids out to share a wonderful and healthy snack.

Soap Making Class

What do you get when you take 3 lbs of melt & pour soap, food coloring, fragrance oil and 8 Beta Club kids??

Three hours of fun, a colorful mess and 16 bars of soap to take home to show to mom & dad! This was so much fun I am considering doing a 3 week class for 8-10 kids this summer on Saturdays.

Lip Balms

This past weekend, Macy and I made Lip Balms. We developed a recipe that is wonderful feeling and provides a silky glide that will leave your lips feeling like you have liquid silk on them. They are flavored with the most amazing lip balm flavor ever!! Buttercream. These lip balms smell like you have just walked into a wedding cake shop. Very decadent.

Another great thing about these lip balms, is that there are no petroleum products in them so they offer a healthier alternative to cheaply made chap sticks full of chemicals that can be harmful to the body.

These lip balms will be for sale on our site very soon!!

Why Handmade Soap?

A lot of people wonder why in the world I would want to make soap. They see the "soap" they can buy at the supermarket and think that Handmade Soap couldn't possibly get them as clean, or wonder why they should pay so much more for some thing handmade than something they can buy at any store in the country for as cheap as a couple of quarters.

So, here is an explanation for why you can benefit from using handmade soap.
First of all most of the "soap" you see at the store is not really soap, it is man made, often petroleum based detergents, hence the names like beauty bars or cleansing bars. These detergents are made to foam and make lots of bubbles and they do get you clean, however they also strip the natural oil mantle that protects your skin, and keeps it from drying out, often leaving you feeling like you need a good moisturizer when you are done bathing.

Handmade soap gives your skin the benefit of being made with ingredients that are derived from nature such as olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil, cocoa butter, shea butter.... the list could go on forever. They also retain the natural by-product of soap making, glycerine, which is a natural skin soothing emollient. Each one of the oils that are in handmade soap are carefully chosen for the qualities it will add to the soap and the overall bathing experience. All of this takes a lot of time, research and trial & error. Soap makers spend years perfecting their craft.

Any one who uses a good quality handmade soap has a hard time believing how much softer and nicer their skin feels and looks at first. Many tell me the more they use it, the softer their skin feels and the less they have to use lotion. After a bar or two they can't go back to "store" soap because they get dry and itchy after using it.

I make soap because it is an earth friendly product, it is a healthier option and I have full control and knowledge of what goes onto my skin. And because it is my creative outlet. :)

Soap, Fae and little girls

My daughter and I both love all things fairy. If it has pretty gossamer wings and sparkles, chances are one of us wants to own it. Both of us are crafty and love to create things so opening a small business to teach my DD how to save and manage money was a no brainer. Add to that our very good fairy friend Nixie, who lives in our garden, and you get La Fae Petite.

We will be making Fae inspired soaps, lotions and other bath and body goodies and telling about our adventures living with a mischievous little fae. Thanks for stopping by, and don't forget to check us out on Facebook for the latest contests, products and sales!!
